When Rahu is favourably placed in any horoscope, he would give stature, prestige, fame and ultimately success. He could even lift the garbage that has got settled in the bin to the top of the temple tower. Rahu that has attained subathuva (beneficence) would give excessive wealth to the native and also give him fame.

In some situations, as Rahu is also responsible for spiritual intellect, when he is in a beneficial grace , devotion to lord Shiva, visiting holy places and undertaking pilgrimage trips could be expected during the his dasa (major period). At the same time when Rahu is placed well and his dasa is operational, then the native would experience an increased spiritual inclination and religious awakening and connectivity with the almighty.

When Rahu attains maleficence, connected to malefics, seated in the house of malefics and is destined to give unfavourable effects then he gets accidents through poisonous insects or poison. In such situations, during the dasa or bhukti(sub period) of Rahu encounters with snakes and other poisonous creatures are bound to happen.

Rahu-Kethu are responsible for one to run around for the sake of his profession. When connected to the 10th house or the lord of profession or when Rahu is placed in the 10th house then the native would be associated with automobiles.

Auto and taxi drivers all come under the governance of Rahu. Apart from the drivers, vehicle conductors and assistants, who work on moving vehicles, would have Rahu connected with their 10th house of profession.

The native would have mental agony without being able to clearly figure out, when Rahu is unfavourably placed. His mind would be restless. Rahu would drive one to attain minimal mental illness.

Rahu gives income through so called “black magic” like necromancy, witchcraft, voodoo etc. In some situations when Rahu is seated in the houses of malefics or is associated with malefics, then one  would earn dubiously using black magic during his dasa(major period).

While most of the astrological scriptures term Rahu and Kethu as malefics, Mahapurusha Kalidasa alone treats Kethu, as total malefic and assumes Rahu to be a 3/4th malefic.

All the scriptures attribute very firmly that Rahu behaves like Sani and Kethu behaves like Mangal. Mahapurusha Kalidasa also tells the same thing.

There seems to be a hidden intricacy in Kalidasa, , terming Kethu to be a complete malefic like Sani and Rahu to be a 3/4th malefic like Mangal, while describing the favourable and unfavourable strengths of planets. Only the almighty would be able to enlighten us on what this sookshma (intricacy)could be …

When Rahu is with a maleficent status and his dasa is operational, then it makes the native an atheist. In such situations, Rahu and Kethu would make one to interact with downtrodden people, step into slums etc.

When Rahu that is devoid of beneficence, is associated with Sukra, then he would get the contact of a lower cadre employee or a girl elder to him or a widow.

As a beneficial Rahu represents sea and areas related to sea, during the dasa of Rahu, he would make one to work near the shores of the sea. This effect could be expected to one, when Rahu is in Kataka, which  is a watery sign.

During the dasa of Rahu, one would get attachment to goddess Durga. This milecha(lowly) planet Rahu is responsible for one to get interest in languages other than his mother tongue like English, Urdu or Telugu.

During the dasa or bhukti of Rahu, one would learn other languages. Rahu is the significator for muslims, speaking with Urdu as their mother-tongue. When Rahu is maleficent, one would have affinity to another religion than his own. Rahu is also responsible for religious conversion.

When Rahu is beneficial, and is poised to give favourable results, there would be benefits through friends from other religion, community or speaking another language. The native would gain elevation through joint entrepreneurship with these people. The results would be on to the contrary if Rahu is maleficent.

Rahu-Kethu drives one to marry in another community or religion. A maleficent Rahu in association with 7th lord or seated in 7th house, would give spouse from other religion more particularly from Islam while Kethu would give a spouse belonging to Christianity.

During the dasa of a subathuva (beneficial) Rahu, one would have technical skills and ability to realise the intricate secrets hidden in our scriptures. In such situations during the dasa and bhukti or Rahu or Kethu, one would show interest in astrology. There would be an opportunity to learn astrology. In some cases, this inclination to astrology would vanish with the completion of the bhukti(sub period) or antara(sub-sub period).

For a prolonged interest in astrology or to become an astrologer, Rahu or Kethu should have attained subathuva (beneficence) or sookshma (intricate) strength. The blessings of Rahu are essential for one to progress well with astrology as a profession and to get elevated.

What are the significations of Rahu?

The following have been indicated to be the important significations of Rahu in our ancient scriptures.

Hidden wealth, clever cheating, popular in society, authority, stands apart in crowd, cinema, goddess Durga, Gomed stone, south-western direction, Rudra(Shiva), fallacious, people in the lowest rung, luxurious life, high end vehicle, gambling, inferiority complex, pain and swelling due to hitting, urad dhal, goat, travel to the northern direction, forest, hill, knowledge of astrology, black magic, stay abroad, fearing the unknown, snake, learning another language, threatening for money, bones, contact with lowly people, crawling poisonous insects, skin disease, bad dreams, worship of lord Shiva, long distance travel, driver, keep on running, late marriage, paternal grandfather, grandmother, unclean state, suicide, mental disease, relationship with widow, drinking habit, losing chastity, job that involves moving continuously, makeup, beautician, handling camera and cell phone, Arabic countries etc..

What are the pilgrimage sites and remedies for Rahu?

As I keep repeating, the principal remedial site for Rahu and Kethu  is Srikaalahasti, that has Rahu as the presiding deity and Kethu as the goddess. When Rahu and Kethu are in dosha (malefic association) depending on the degree of dosha, one has to stay at Srikaalahasti from sunset and perform Sarpa Santhi pooja (propitiation to the snake gods) and Rudrabishekam (Sacred bathing ritual to Shiva) in the night.

In Tamil Nadu, Thirunageswaram, Kodumudi, any other temple where the presiding deities are lord Naganathar, Nagavalli and all other self-developed snake burrow temples are all remedial sites to ward of the evil dosha of Rahu and Kethu.

If in a family, Rahu dasa or bhukti is operational to more than one, then it would be an important remedy to participate in the propitiation and Havan of goddess Soolini Durga. This havan is performed at Shri Velleeswarar temple in Mylapore, Chennai and at the Dhanvantri temple located at Walajapet, Vellore.
